ABOUT TRACIE M. SHELBY

Tracie M. Shelby’s mission as Judge of the 162nd Civil District Court is to decide cases fairly, impartially, and free of political influence or intimidation; to always follow the law and put justice first; and to establish a due-process driven court where everyone is treated equally.

She is running for Judge of the 162nd Civil District Court because the citizens of Dallas County deserve to have a tested and highly qualified candidate to fill the current vacancy on the bench. She is also running because she believes improvements can be made to our judicial system in terms of equity and efficiency.

Tracie M. Shelby is the best candidate to affect that kind of change.

Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to working-class parents, her family instilled several values in her — faith, education, hard work, determination, respect for others, integrity, compassion, trustworthiness, and dependability — that are hallmarks of highly successful people. Tracie is a product of Dollarway and Pine Bluff School Districts’ schools, where she matriculated from her primary education through graduation from Pine Bluff High School.

A THRIVING CAREER

Tracie began her legal career as a General Counsel for a clothing manufacturer company in Washington, D.C. She also was a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Petrese B. Tucker of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and the Honorable Clifford Scott Green of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. As a judicial law clerk, she managed large volumes of federal cases including both civil and criminal. Her judicial clerkship provided the opportunity for her to refine her legal writing, research, and analytical skills. After her judicial clerkships, she worked as General Counsel for a not-for-profit organization in Philadelphia, PA.

Prior to establishing her own law firm in Dallas, Texas, Tracie served in the following notable positions:  Associate Vice President in Merchant Banking in the Real Estate Group at The Walton Johnson Group in Dallas, TX; Associate Director of Business Development in General Electric Capital’s Mergers & Acquisition and Private Equity Group in Norwalk, CT; Assistant General Counsel at Sisters in Shape, Inc. in Philadelphia, PA;  Law Clerk to the Honorable Petrese B. Tucker of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA; Law Clerk to the Honorable Clifford Scott Green of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA; and General Counsel for Intimate Battles, Inc. in Washington, D.C.

Beyond the courtroom

Beyond the walls of the courtroom, Tracie has worked to affect change in the law profession through her memberships in the Dallas Bar Association, the J.L. Turner Legal Association, the John C. Ford American Inn of Court, and the Women League of Voters. She has also served as a guest speaker at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law’s Annual Consumer Bankruptcy CLE conference from 2013 to 2016 to share best practices with colleagues in the area of consumer bankruptcy.

A long serving community advocate and volunteer, Attorney Shelby has provided pro bono services to the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program for their Wills and Estate Clinic as well as to the Legal Clinic at Friendship-West Baptist Church.
